Washington, DC – The Office of Tibet-DC released a Fundraising Handbook for North American Tibetan Associations (NATA). The handbook was sent to all the Presidents of NATA and the two Chitues from North America on August 22, 2016.

The 62-page document was put together after reviewing core programs and activities of NATA. OoT-DC then researched local and national funders whose funding priorities matched the activities of Tibetan Associations. The handbook includes a comprehensive directory of funders in the United States and Canada. Given that many Tibetan Associations do not have any staff and writing proposals can be a challenge, the handbook contains sample proposals for three core NATA activities: Weekend Tibetan schools; community center purchase and renovation; and youth and health programs. The sample proposals will need to be customized for each Tibetan Association by providing more local information and context.

The handbook also includes directions on how Tibetan Associations can apply for Google for Nonprofits – a platform that Office of Tibet encourages all Tibetan Associations to adopt for their communication, data sharing, and social media needs.

“The handbook represents Office of Tibet’s commitment to boost the resource mobilization capacity of the Tibetan Associations in North America. Though the document is basic, I hope it will be helpful and facilitate the fundraising efforts of the Tibetan Associations,” said Representative Kaydor Aukatsang.
