Kalon Chhoyang said she worked and studied for nine years in Tibet and China after her university studies. During her stay in Tibet, she said, she saw the threat faced by Tibetans for the survival of the Tibetan culture under huge Chinese presence and influence.

Tibetans from all walks of life in Tibet have enormous respect and trust in His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and look up to him to resolve the situation in Tibet, she said.

Kalon Dicki Chhoyang, who is the head of the Department of Information & International Relations of the Central Tibetan Administration, spoke about the prevailing critical situation in Tibet and the self-immolation of 122 Tibetans.

She said that the Central Tibetan Administration led by democratically-elected political leader Dr Lobsang Sangay works for the interest of the Tibetan people.

The Middle Way Approach is the official policy of the Central Tibetan Administration to resolve the issue of Tibet for the future survival of the Tibetan people and culture, she said, adding that this policy was adopted and endorsed by the Tibetan people and the Parliament.

In her interviews and meetings, Kalon Dicki Chhoyang said that the Central Tibetan Administration was firmly committed to resolving the Tibetan issue through non-violence and dialogue, based on the Middle Way Approach. The Tibetans are ready for a meaningful dialogue with Beijing. She emphasized that substance was more important than process.

Major Austrian newspapers – Kronen Zeitung, Kurier and Die Presse -covered Kalon Chhoyang’s first visit to Austria.

She is scheduled to visit Italy on 30 November.
