Gonpo Kyi Reveals Beijing’s Cover-up of her Brother’s Wrongful Conviction in Latest Videos

Dharamshala: Latest videos by Gonpo Kyi, Dorjee Tashi’s sister, exposed Beijing’s People’s Procuratorate for its unlawful and deceptive actions in dragging Dorjee Tashi’s retrial unnecessarily after he was wrongfully sentenced to life imprisonment on trumped-up charges when, according to Chinese law and Constitution, he is not entitled to the imprisonment.

In the video, Gonpo Kyi shows a letter she mentioned she received 7 or 8 years earlier from the Beijing People’s Procuratorate, stating that Dorjee Tashi’s case will be retried within three months. Eight years later, his case has not yet been reviewed for retrial. Consequently, she has appealed to the “Tibet Autonomous Region Higher People’s Court” in Lhasa on numerous occasions, resulting in repeated beatings and detentions until now without any ruling from the Chinese court.

In the video, she says:

“Beijing’s People’s Procuratorate has announced that Dorjee Tashi’s case will be retried and handled within three months. The Lhasa Court has deferred and prevented a fair trial for Dorjee Tashi for the past seven or eight years. It would not have been necessary for me to appeal to Lhasa court and the Lhasa police to drag and beat me every day if the People’s Court handled Dorjee Tashi’s case fairly.”

The letter of the People’s Procuratorate in Beijing that Gonpo Kyi held in her hand reads:

“Your letter has been received. Upon examination, in accordance with the law and relevant regulations, we have forwarded this material to the People’s Procuratorate of the Tibet Autonomous Region for examination and processing. The handling process or results will be replied to by the procuratorate within three months.”

She is also seen showing bruises on her arms in another video recorded on 28 May 2024.

Life Imprisonment of Dorje Tashi
For over 15 years, Dorje Tashi has been jailed in a Chinese prison. Over the years, Dorjee Tashi’s family members have been showing growing concerns over his health conditions due to series of torture and beatings he has been subjected. Despite numerous requests for a fair trial and a revision of the case, he continues to remain behind bars. His family has been denied visiting him in prison, and appeals to higher authorities proved fruitless. Dorjee Tashi was initially arrested on 10 July 2008 on suspicion of making donations to Tibetan exiles and providing funding to Tibetan protesters in Tibet. He was sentenced to life imprisonment on 17 May 2010.
