Chinese Liaison Officer Takes Part in 3rd Special Delegate Convention of the Democratic Party of China

3rd Special Delegate Convention of the Democratic Party of China.

New York: The 3rd Special Delegate Convention of Democratic Party of China (DPC) was held virtually on 29-30 January. It was attended by its administrators, Chinese scholars, and supporters of democracy. CTA’s Chinese Liaison Officer Tsultrim Gyatso and Uyghur activist Eli Shaq also participated in the convention as special guests and talked about their respective people’s plight under the subjugation of Chinese Communist Party.

Highlighting the inevitability of remaining neighbours despite historical differences, the Chinese Liaison Officer stated that, like Chinese belief of themselves as the descendants of the dragon and Yanhong emperor, Tibetans believe themselves as the descendants of Pha Trelgen Jhangchup Sempa and Ma Drag Sinmo. Similarly, as several dynasties ruled China in the past, Tibet was also governed by the Tubo dynasty, followed by the Gaden Phodrang government. However, after the PLA’s annexation of Tibet, the Chinese Liaison Officer remarked Tibetans were oppressed, and harsh policies were introduced to destroy Tibetan identity. He further added the account of 155 self-immolations by Tibetans inside Tibet in his talk.

Liaison between the Chinese and Tibetans was initially introduced through the vision of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who frequently meets Chinese scholars and students during his visitation to foreign countries. Ultimately, the post of Chinese Liaison Officer was launched during the tenure of the 13th Kashag, after which the CTA was able to lay the foundation of associations between the two communities in various foreign countries. The establishment of the liaison office resulted in gradual increase in Chinese people who are informed about Tibet and support Tibet. Whereas, prior to that, many Chinese disliked Tibetans due to massive Chinese government propaganda on Tibet. Therefore, Chinese Liaison Officer Tsultrim Gyatso solemnly appreciated Chinese supporters of Tibet.

Despite postponing many programs of the Chinese Liaison Officer due to the pandemic, North America Office of Tibet expressed its plan to organise many events after the pandemic restrictions eases. The members of Democratic Party of China agreed to support and participate as usual in the OOT programs to strengthen the relation between Chinese and Tibetan people.
