Kunchok Dolma, a former student of Honors College at Lehman, City University of New York, has won a prestigious Clarendon Scholarship to pursue graduate studies at Oxford University, England.
Kunchok will be pursuing her M.Phil in International Relations at Oxford University.
Clarendon Scholarships are awarded to academically excellent students with the best proven and future potential. The Scholarships cover tuition and college fees in full and a generous grant for living expenses, and are open to students starting a new course at Oxford. They are highly competitive, with less than 10% of applicants selected for the scholarship. http://www.clarendon.ox.ac.uk/
According to Clarendon House, a distinguishing feature of Clarendon scholarships is that scholars are selected from the leaders in their field – that is, academic departments nominate whom they believe are the most deserving of their place at the University of Oxford based on their academic record and ability to contribute significantly to their field of study, both in the present and future. This feature ensures the best and brightest minds are selected as Clarendon scholars.
Earlier, while pursuing her undergraduate studies at Leman, Kunchok won the Jeannette K. Watson Fellowship, which provides internships, mentoring, and enriched educational opportunities to promising New York City undergraduates with the goal of increasing their life choices and developing their capacity to make a difference in their own and others’ live.
As a JK Watson Fellow, she completed a ten-week summer internship with the United Nation’s Population Fund in New York (2006), the New York State Supreme Court (2007), and Department of International Relations and Information of the Central Tibetan Administration (2008).
Speaking to Tsewang Phuntso of the Office of Tibet in New York of her Oxford scholarship, Kunchok said: “I wanted to thank you for the opportunity to intern at the CTA in Dharamsala in my third year as a Watson fellow. It was a great learning experience, and this along with many other opportunities I have received through my mentors, school and various programs have made me competent for such scholarships and fellowships”.
Kunchok has just recently completed her Urban Fellowship at the New York City administration. It is a program sponsored by The City of New York and administered by the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS), and is designed to introduce America’s finest college students and graduates to local government and public service.
