US Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues thanks Sikyong’s congratulatory letter, assures continued support to Tibet

Dharamshala: The US Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues, Uzra Zeya wrote to Sikyong Penpa Tsering of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) acknowledging and thanking him for his congratulatory letter and for welcoming her appointment as the US Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues by Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Monday, 20 December.

In the letter addressed to Sikyong on 6 January 2022, the US Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues wrote,

“Thank you for your letter of congratulations on December 21 following my designation as the United States Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues. I also would like to congratulate you on your election as Sikyong earlier in 2021.”

“The United States shares your interest in seeing a resumption of dialogue, without preconditions between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and His  Holiness the Dalai Lama, his representatives, or leaders of the Tibetan community.”

Furthermore, she assured the continued support of the US in the protection of human rights of Tibetans and the preservation of their distinct historical, linguistic, cultural, and religious identity.

The Special Coordinator of Tibetan Issues also assured continued humanitarian assistance and cooperation to the Tibetan refugees. Moreover, the letter vouched the US commitment to protecting Tibet’s environment and water resources.

On receiving the letter yesterday, Sikyong thanked Special Coordinator Uzra Zeya in a tweet for her recent proactive engagements with Tibetan representatives.

“I look forward to meeting you in person to further cement our efforts in advancing the cause of Tibet,” Sikyong tweeted.
