Chinese Liaison Officer Tsultrim Gyatso Highlights Sinicization of Tibetan Identity

The Chinese Liaison Officer of the Washington-based Office of Tibet, Tsultrim Gyatso highlighted the deteriorating colonial sinicization policies implemented in Tibet at an event commemorating the Tiananmen Massacre at Liberty Sculpture Park where the sculpture of a chained woman was erected to signify the Chinese woman who was detained, chained and imprisoned for years in a shabby hut in Feng County, Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province of China.

Tsultrim spoke about the colonial boarding school and the collection of DNA samples from over a million Tibetans and underlined the importance of finding common ground across movements as per the advice of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Many renowned Chinese democracy activists including representatives from various freedom movements and local officials attended the ceremony.

Chen Weiming unveiled the sculpture of Chained Woman that he and his team had worked on. He emphasized the violation of human rights and the poor situation in China, citing the example of the Chained Woman, though the Chinese Communist Party claims its economy is well off in a technologically driven society.  Chen then unlocked the chain to symbolize his hope for freeing Chained Woman and a free China.

Renowned Chinese Human Rights Activist and lawyer Chen Guangcheng also delivered a speech at the gathering, highlighting the case of the Chained Woman and expressing his concern about human rights issues in China. He urged for a collective effort to bring about peace and freedom in China. Yu Dahai and Chen Chuangchuang along with others also spoke on behalf of their organizations.

On 5th June, Tsultrim went to visit Pro Lau Hon Shiang at his residence, expressing appreciation for his years of research on Chinese imperial records and drawing conclusions on the status of Tibet in Qing and Ming Chinese orthodox history records.

Tsultrim Gyatso was accompanied by Tenzing Chonden, a former member of the Tibetan Parliament and Tseten Dolkar Phanucharas, president of the Tibetan Association of Southern California.
