WASHINGTON: Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama Mr Penpa Tsering of Office of Tibet based in Washington DC met with Ms Sarah Sewall, Under Secretary of the State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights and the Special Coordinator for Tibet at the US State Department building on 21 October 2016.
Representative Penpa Tsering was warmly received by Under Secretary Sarah Sewall.
During the meeting, they shared their views on current Tibet issues pertaining to the Sino-Tibet negotiation status, Central Tibetan Administration’s policies and programs relating to the gender issues, different approaches to reach out to the United States and its continued support for Tibet, especially during and after the US election. They discussed ways to strategically strengthen Tibet movement in coming days.
Representative Penpa Tsering also shared his views on current situation inside Tibet and the three core commitments of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. They also discussed upcoming visits of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in the United States in 2017.
He expressed his gratitude to Under Secretary Sarah Sewall and the United States for their long-standing support for Tibet. He further expressed his hope to work closely with the State Department and gather their continued support.
