In his condolence letter Sikyong added, “With great sadness, I on behalf of the Central Tibetan Administration and the Tibetan people express our condolences to the family of Congressman John Lewis, the US Congress and the people of the United States on his passing”.
He also added that Congressman Lewis was one of the giants of the US civil rights movement who walked alongside Dr. Martin Luther King and who will be remembered alongside such great leaders that marched on the path of non-violence in the face of persecution to sought justice and freedom for others.
“Today, we Tibetans are on a similar path of non-violence to secure freedom and justice for the Tibetan people and, as we march on this path, we take inspiration from the lives of leaders such as of Congressman John Lewis.
Though we all mourn this loss in a time where the world is in need of such leaders, the legacy of Congressman John Lewis will continue to serve as an inspiration in the face of injustice” said Sikyong Dr. Sangay.
