Sikyong Penpa Tsering addressed Tibetan community in Northern California on day 1 of official engagements in the U.S.
Dharamshala: Upon arrival on his second official visit to the US, Sikyong Penpa Tsering was warmly received by the Executive members of Tibetan Association and Tibetan community of Northern California.
Commencing his official engagements the very next day, Sikyong addressed the California-based Tibetan community at the JFK auditorium apprising them of the fundamental objectives of the 16th Kashag specifically highlighting the political endeavours of the administration with respect to resolving the Sino-Tibet conflict. He explained the purpose of dissolving the Task Force on Sino-Tibetan Negotiations established in 1998 and replacing it with a Permanent Strategy Committee comprising four members each from a specific department of CTA concedable to the task involving sourcing relevant information inside Tibet, sourcing news around the world, conducting analytical research on the information gathered.
Other key highlights of Sikyong’s public address include the initiatives taken by the 16th Kashag in restrengthening effective international advocacy campaigns such as the establishment of VTAG recognising the essentiality of youth leadership and their engaging participation in the Tibetan freedom movement. He reiterated Kashag’s commitment to forging unity within the community and strengthening the connection between both while prioritising transparency and accountability as its core approach to governance.
In the afternoon, Sikyong addressed Tibetan youth emphasising their equal and maximum participation in the ongoing political initiatives taken by the administration. He explained the key objectives and functions of various departments and the Offices of Tibet under the wing of CTA.
Later in the evening, Sikyong met and interacted with representatives of Tibetan Buddhist Dharma Centres informing them about the status of monastic institutions in exile.
After concluding California’s engagements, Sikyong departed for Minnesota.
