Dharamshala: In the gracious presence of Sikyong Penpa Tsering, the Ontario Tibetan community celebrated a confluence of three significant events: the successful medical treatment of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s knee, enactment of the “Resolve Tibet Act” in the US and the recent unanimous passage of a motion supporting Tibet’s right to self-determination in the Canadian House of Common, on 20 July 2024 at the GangJong Choedhenling.
Along with Sikyong, the celebration was also attended by MP James Maloney, the President of Canadian Parliamentary Support Group for Tibet; Representative Dr Namgyal Choedup, Office of Tibet, Washington DC; Bhuchung K. While addressing the gathering, Sikyong outlined the 16th Kashag’s political strategy aimed at advocating and substantiating Tibet’s historical independence in order to reinforce the policy of Middle Way Approach and further spoke about the US President’s approval of the “Resolve Tibet Act” and the Canadian House of Common’s passage of motion supporting Tibet’s right to self-determination.
While reaffirming his and his colleagues’ steadfast support for Tibet’s cause, MP James Maloney briefed the recent passage of a motion supporting Tibet in the Canadian House Commons and congratulated Tibetans for the enactment of the Tibet bill in the US.
