Dharamshala: As part of the ongoing official engagements in the US, Sikyong Penpa Tsering of the Central Tibetan Administration attended celebrations extending gratitude to the US government for enacting the Resolve Tibet Act at various Tibetan community centres and addressed the gatherings in Madison-Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Chicago.
On 27 July 2024, Sikyong gave a speech to the Tibetan community at the auditorium of the Wisconsin Tibetan Association, followed by an address at the auditorium of the Tibetan American Foundation of Minnesota. On the subsequent day, Sikyong met and interacted with the Tibetan community in Chicago.
In his keynote speech to Tibetans at the mentioned venues, Sikyong emphasised the current Kashag’s firm dedication to achieving His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s vision across all administration areas, including the political spectrum. He stressed the importance of maintaining dialogue with Chinese counterparts to peacefully address the long-standing Tibet-China conflict through the Middle Way Approach and called for unity amongst Tibetans, regardless of differing political opinions, in legitimising the polarities of Middle Way Approach.
Sikyong also noted that international focus on the Tibet issue has traditionally been driven by His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s lifelong efforts and the troubling conditions within Tibet. However, he pointed out that, for the first time, a government’s passage of a bill on Tibet has garnered significant international attention and hence, expressed his appreciations to every individuals involved in the success of this legislation.
In addition, Sikyong paid an obeisance to His Holiness the Dalai Lama in upstate New York on 29 July during a special audience.
