Liaison Officer Kunga Tashi visits Losel Kyetsel Tibetan Language and Culture School

Washington: Washington’s Tibetan Liaison Officer Kunga Tashi visited the NY and NJ-based Losel Kyetsel Tibetan language and culture school on Saturday. This is his first assessment visit to the school after assuming the responsibility of the Tibetan Liaison Officer. The visit’s main objective was to understand the school’s situation and to review the implementation of the resolution passed at the 20th North American Tibetan Associations Conference.

School’s principal, Topdhen, presented a detailed report of the school to the liaison officer, according to which 431 Tibetan children attend the weekend classes facilitated by around 33 staff. The subjects taught at the school are on par with the Department of Education’s recommended books designed especially for the language and culture school.

Following the assessment tour of the school, the liaison officer addressed the teachers and conveyed the office’s appreciation for their services despite their busy schedules. He commended the teachers’ positive impact on the young children by encouraging their learning interest in Tibetan culture and language.

Established in 1996, His Holiness the Dalai Lama bestowed the name ‘Losel Kystel’. The school has benefitted many young Tibetan children for the last 26 years of its existence. The school also reports an increase in admission sought by Tibetan children.

On this visit, the Tibetan liaison officer was accompanied by Norbu Tsering, President of the Tibetan Community of NY NJ.
