Utah Tibetan Association Calls on Former Congressman Christ Stewart and Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall

Washington DC: The president and the executive members of the Utah Tibetan Association called on former Congressman Christ Stewart from Utah’s 2nd District and sought his support for the U.S. Tibet bill last Thursday as per the resolution of the recently held North American Tibetan Associations’ Conference.

Congressman Christ Stewart, who recently retired from his office, visited the Utah Tibetan Association’s Community Center and met with the Tibetan delegation consisting of the association’s President Lobsang Tsering; Vice President Tenzin Choedhar; Secretary Tenzin Thokmey Sampho; Cultural Director Karma Thinley; and coordinator of the association’s Tibet advocacy campaign and former Tibetan parliamentarian Pema Chagzoetsang. During the meeting, the former House of Representative member assured his continued support while instructing his subordinate Rhonda Perkes, the Outreach Director, to carry through and fulfil the association’s proposals.

Similarly, on 26 September, the association’s coordinator of the Tibet advocacy programme, Pema Chagzoetsang, paid a visit to Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall at the City Hall and presented a report of the Utah Tibetan Association’s undertakings. She also appealed for her support towards the Tibetan community of Salt Lake City and the Tibetan cause in general.

Mayor Erin Mendenhall later posted online that she was pleased to meet with members of the Utah Tibetan Association and to have discussed ways to support the Tibetan community in Salt Lake City.

According to the association’s president Lobsang Tsering, their meeting with the former Congressman and Mayor of Salt Lake City was a successful campaign as the two promised their steadfast support. He said the Utah Tibetan Association is also looking forward to working with them in future on the Tibetan freedom struggle.
