Sikyong Addresses Tibetan Communities in Denver and Salt Lake City

Washington DC: Following his conclusion of engagements in Washington DC, Sikyong Penpa Tsering of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) reached Denver, Colorado, where he was received by the President of the Regional Tibetan Association and the Tibetan settlers on 10 February 2023.

Later in the evening, Sikyong addressed the Tibetan community and students of the weekend class at the Tibetan Association’s auditorium. He implored Tibetans to endorse and support the recently introduced Tibet bill “Promoting a Resolution to Tibet-China Conflict” and urged Tibetans in the region to register for the V-TAG membership. He further apprised the gathering of substantial political and financial support that the government of the United States rendered for resolving the Tibet-China conflict.

Furthermore, Sikyong underlined the grave situations inside Tibet that threaten Tibetans’ identity and the CTA’s optimal use of the current global view on China to the best advantage in campaigning and advocating the Tibet cause. He also briefly presented CTA’s plans for the next three years at the gathering, where he emphasised issues concerning CTA and the exiled Tibetan community, such as sustenance of the Tibetan settlements, empowerment of CTA staff, structural and hierarchical up-gradation of CTA, etc.

On the sideline, Sikyong interacted with a group of Tibetan youngsters to enlighten them about Tibet’s history, environment, and cultural heritage and how the Communist Party of China is disturbing every aspect of Tibetans’ life. He also highlighted China’s unconstitutional claim to intervening in recognising the reincarnation of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, which was disapproved of and objected to by many worldwide.

Prior to Sikyong’s address, Representative Dr Namgyal Choedup gave a briefing on Sikyong’s engagements in Washington while the President of the Tibetan Association presented the association’s annual report during the gathering.

On 11 February, Sikyong left for Salt Lake City in Utah and was received by former Tibetan parliamentarian Pema Chagzoetsang, President of the Tibetan Association in Utah, and the Tibetan resident at the airport upon his arrival.

In Salt Lake City, Sikyong met and interacted with the Tibetan youths and addressed the public.
