December 7, 2015 – The Office of Tibet hosted a reception for Chinese friends and supporters in the Washington, DC area at the Tabard Inn on December 4.
The event brought together members of the Washington DC Chinese community working on Tibetan and Chinese issues. Representative Kaydor Aukatsang in his welcoming remarks thanked everyone for their support and stressed the importance of bringing together the Tibetan and Chinese community to promote dialogue and mutual understanding.
The main speaker at the event was Professor Ming Xia, faculty member at the City University of New York. He spoke on His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s vision and the Middle Way Approach. Other speakers included Kasur Tempa Tsering, His Holiness’ Representative in New Delhi; Sophie Richardson, China Director at Human Rights Watch, Matteo Meccaci, President of International Campaign for Tibet; and Wei Jingsheng, Chinese human rights activist. The evening also included the singing of traditional Tibetan songs by Karma Gyaltsen, former member of the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts.
Attendees includes representatives from the Chinese and Tibetan news division of Radio Free Asia and Voice of America, Initiative for China, Taiwanese Cultural Foundation, Chinese Democracy Coalition, Laogai Research Foundation, Victims of Communism Memorial, International Campaign for Tibet, National Endowment for Democracy, and the Capital Area Tibetan Association.
