Washington DC: Representative Namgyal Choedup and Secretary Tashi Dhondup met Congressman Jim McGovern at his office on April 1, 2022.
Representative Choedup greeted Congressman Govern with a traditional Tibetan scarf ‘kha-tak’ and thanked him for his unwavering support to the Tibetan cause. In the briefing about the deteriorating situation inside Tibet due to Beijing’s relentless attacks on Tibetan identity including Tibetan language and religious expression, the Representative mentioned the two recent self-immolations on February 25 by 26-year old Tibetan singer Tsewang Norbu and on March 27 by 81-year old Taphun. He further briefed the Congressman about the initiatives taken by the current CTA Administration to revive the Sino-Tibetan dialogue, the upcoming Sikyong’s official visit to DC in April, and the World Parliamentarian Convention on Tibet (WPCT). Congressman reaffirmed continued support for the Tibetan cause.
On March 30, 2022, Representative Namgyal Choedup and Secretary Tashi Dhondup met former Ambassador for International Religious Freedom Samuel Brownback and his Executive Director Mattew Goddard at the Office of Tibet. Ambassador Brownback is the current vice-chair of IRF Summit 2022 and he extends his continued support for the Tibetan cause.
Later in the afternoon, the Representative met U.S Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issue Under-Secretary Uzra Zeya’s special assistant Ryan Fioresi to discuss Sikyong’s upcoming visit to Washington DC.
