Washington DC: The Chinese Liaison Officer of the Office of Tibet in Washington DC, Tsultrim Gyatso, attended the seminar held in New York by a group of Chinese pro-democratic groups to discourse on the cross-strait situation and its prospect on 7 & 8 October 2023.
The two-day seminar was jointly organised by China Democratic League, Beijing Spring, June 4th Memorial Museum, and the Democracy Party of China and was partook and addressed by several prominent Chinese pro-democrats and intellectuals.
Participants of the seminar shared their opinions and suggestions on issues regarding the shifting worldwide political landscape, current economic and political changes inside China, and strategising campaigns with regard to these changes. The gathering also discussed the potentiality of the People’s Republic of China waging a war over Taiwan in light of rising hostilities across the globe in recent years. Considering non-violent means as suitable and necessary measures for establishing world harmony amidst escalating tensions, many participants commended His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s constant advocacy of non-violence for conflict resolution.
In his keynote address, Chinese Liaison Officer Tsultrim Gyatso apprised the gathering about seventy years of Tibetan freedom struggle. He highlighted Beijing’s sinicization policy that intended to eradicate unique Tibetan identity, along with the Central Tibetan Administration’s (CTA) policy of middle way approach, which His Holiness the Dalai Lama envisioned as the most appropriate solution for resolving the longstanding Tibet-China conflict despite the latter’s inhumane treatment of all that is Tibetan. The Chinese Liaison Officer urged all Chinese dissidents to work together to advance their shared goals, adding that the CTA and Tibetans in exile would continue their global campaigns to expose China’s abuses in Tibet unless the People’s Republic of China implemented real and genuine changes inside Tibet that would actually benefit Tibetans.
