Dharamshala: Earlier this morning, Sikyong Penpa Tsering formally launched In His Presence: Reflections on His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s Global Engagements at the Kashag Secretariat of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) in Dharamshala.
The publication is part of the Department of Information and International Relations’ (DIIR) Year of Compassion project, which commemorates the 90th birth year of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. The year-long observance officially concluded in early July this year, marking His Holiness’ 91st birthday.
Arranged alphabetically by contributors’ names, the publication brings together a curated collection of reflections by 39 former Kalons (Ministers) of the DIIR and Representatives of the Offices of Tibet who accompanied and served His Holiness during his global engagements over several decades and across continents.
In their respective contributions, the authors recount personal anecdotes and memorable moments from His Holiness’ engagements with heads of states, members of royal families, religious leaders, prominent public figures, politicians, media personnel, as well as devotees, well-wishers, and ordinary people around the world.
The contributors express their admiration for His Holiness’ tireless dedication to the Tibetan people, steadfast leadership in advancing the cause of Tibet, and contributions to building a resilient Tibetan community in exile with robust democratic institutions. They also recall his humility and down-to-earth nature, and how he remained connected with ordinary people despite his global prominence.
Reflecting the contributors’ sincere admiration and gratitude, the publication pays tribute to His Holiness’s life of compassion, selfless service, and unwavering commitment to the Tibetan cause and the flourishing of Buddhism and its practical teachings for a better world. As he enters his nonagenarian years, the contributors also extend their heartfelt wishes on this milestone.
The launch at the Kashag Secretariat was also attended by DIIR Acting Secretary Namgyal Tsewang and head of the department’s Translation and Publication Section Phurbu Dolma.
