Representative Namgyal Choedup Meets Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal

Washington DC: Representative Namgyal Choedup, Secretary Tashi Dhondup and ICT Government Relations Director Franz Matzner paid a courtesy call on Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal on Tuesday at her office to thank her for her unwavering support to the Tibetan cause.

Congresswoman Jayapal has been serving as the U.S. representative from Washington’s 7th congressional district since 2017. She is a great admirer of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and a strong supporter of the Tibetan cause. She was also one of the congressional delegation who visited Dharamshala in 2018 where she had an audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Congresswoman Jayapal also co-sponsored important legislations on Tibet including Tibet Policy and Support Act of 2020 and Reciprocal Access to tibet of 2018.

During the meeting, Representative Choedup briefed the Congresswoman on the Kashag’s firm commitment to the Middle Way Policy to resolve the Sino-Tibet issue and the deteriorating situation inside Tibet due to Beijing’s relentless attacks on Tibetan identity including Tibetan language and religious expression. He mentioned the initiatives taken by the current CTA Administration to revive the Sino-Tibetan dialogue and the upcoming Sikyong’s official visit to DC in April this year.

Congresswoman thanked the Representative for the update and reaffirmed continued support and expressed her eagerness to meet with Tibetans in Seattle and Washington. She further expressed her desire to work closely with the Office of Tibet and to meet His Holiness the Dalai Lama in the future.
