Sikyong’s Statement on the Global Campaign “16 Days of Activism against Gender based Violence”

STATEMENT

The global observance of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, held from 25 November to 10 December 2025, serves as an important reminder of our collective responsibility to prevent and address violence in all its forms. Gender-based violence, whether directed at women, girls, or individuals of any gender, threatens the safety and fundamental rights of those affected. Confronting this challenge is a moral, social, and institutional imperative.

This year’s theme, “End Digital Violence against all Women and Girls,” highlights a rapidly expanding threat. As digital platforms become increasingly embedded in our daily lives, they also create new avenues for non-consensual sharing of personal information, cyberstalking, targeted intimidation, and various forms of digital exploitation. The consequences of such violence are farreaching. They silence the voices of women and girls, limit their participation in public and digital spaces, and often escalate into offline forms of abuse.

The Central Tibetan Administration remains deeply committed to safeguarding the wellbeing and empowerment of Tibetan women and girls, and to fostering environments, both physical and digital, where safety and respect of all are upheld. Through the efforts of the Women Empowerment Desk (WED), we continue to promote awareness, strengthen preventive measures, and encourage community engagement to ensure that acts of violence are neither tolerated nor overlooked.

It is essential for all members of the community to recognise that preventing gender-based violence requires the active involvement of all. Violence, whether visible or hidden behind a screen, causes significant emotional, physical, and psychological distress and demands clear accountability.

As we mark these 16 days, I urge everyone to reaffirm their commitment to speak up, uphold this shared responsibility, and act resolutely to end violence in all its forms so that every woman and girl may live with freedom from fear.
