Dharamshala: On the occasion of the traditional Tibetan New Year, Losar 2153—the year of the Fire Horse—Sikyong Penpa Tsering extends Losar greetings on behalf of the Central Tibetan Administrations to Tibetans around the world.
Sikyong Penpa Tsering’s message for Losar:
To all Tibetans, both inside and outside Tibet, on behalf of the Central Tibetan Administration, I extend warm greetings and heartfelt best wishes on the auspicious occasion of Losar, the 2153rd year of the Tibetan calendar—the Year of the Fire Horse.
Over the past year, we celebrated the 90th birthday of our beloved spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and observed the Year of Compassion, a global initiative reflecting His Holiness’ lifelong teachings on love and compassion. His Holiness’ message has reached far and wide, touching hearts and inspiring people across the world.
Inside Tibet, our fellow Tibetans continue to face numerous challenges. Due to the oppressive policies of the Chinese government, they are often unable to express their true thoughts and feelings—even among family members and friends. The Chinese authorities are systematically attempting to erase Tibet’s unique identity, language, religion, culture, and environment, with the ultimate goal of Sinicising the Tibetan people. Yet despite these hardships, Tibetans inside Tibet remain steadfast and undaunted. They continue to cherish and preserve their language, faith, and cultural heritage, and their pride as Tibetans has only grown stronger in the face of adversity. We deeply admire their resilience and unwavering spirit.
In the face of such suffering, some Tibetans have even made the ultimate sacrifice for our common cause. The courage and determination of our people inside Tibet inspire those of us in exile to persist in our efforts to secure freedom and pursue justice on the international stage. Through our continued commitment, we have achieved meaningful progress.
To Tibetans in exile: we belong to one family. We share the same language, religion, culture, and homeland—the vast and sacred plateau of Tibet. When we unite and pool our collective strength, there is nothing we cannot accomplish. History has shown that through unity we can overcome great challenges. Our adversary, the People’s Republic of China, is a powerful nation; without unity among ourselves, we risk internal divisions that weaken our common cause. Divided, we achieve nothing. United, we move forward with strength and purpose.
Today, the global political landscape is undergoing significant change, presenting both opportunities and challenges. We must seize these opportunities with wisdom and determination, and work together to fulfil the vision of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. This Losar marks a new beginning. Let us dedicate ourselves to working diligently, honestly, and with pure hearts.
I wish you all a joyful and prosperous Tibetan New Year. May the blessings and protection of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Dharma protectors guide us toward the fulfilment of our aspirations. If we continue to act with integrity and unity, we will surely succeed.
Best wishes, and a happy Losar to all.
