Washington D.C.: On 30 October 2025, Sikyong Penpa Tsering met with Martin Thümmel, Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy in Washington, D.C. Having previously met with Sikyong during Sikyong’s official visits to Germany, Thümmel showed a nuanced understanding of the situation of Tibetans both inside Tibet and in exile.
Subsequently, Sikyong met with Senator Dan Sullivan, Chair of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC), at the Senator’s office. The CECC has consistently highlighted human rights violations in Tibet and has convened hearings addressing issues such as cultural erasure and forced assimilation. During this engagement, Sikyong, accompanied by Representative Namgyal Choedup of the Office of Tibet, Washington, D.C., conveyed his appreciation for the CECC’s continued advocacy for the human rights of all, including Tibetans.
As a gesture of gratitude, Sikyong presented Senator Sullivan with a copy of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s Voice for the Voiceless, personally signed by His Holiness.
