Sikyong Congratulates His Excellency Mark Joseph Carney on His Inauguration as the 24th Prime Minister of Canada

Dharamshala: Sikyong Penpa Tsering extended his heartfelt congratulations to His Excellency Mark Joseph Carney on his appointment as the 24th Prime Minister of Canada, on behalf of the Central Tibetan Administration and the Tibetan people.

While expressing the gratitude of the Tibetan people for the hospitality and friendship of the Canadian people, Sikyong wrote, “The relationship between Canada and Tibet dates back to the 1970s, when Canada played a pivotal role in facilitating the resettlement of Tibetan refugees. Beyond supporting resettlement programs, the Canadian government has generously contributed to the rehabilitation of Tibetans and fostered an environment conducive to preserving Tibetan language, culture, and religion—one in which Tibetans can participate freely in the political sphere.”

“Under your esteemed leadership, we look forward to further strengthening this enduring relationship and advancing our shared commitments,” the letter concluded.
