Washington DC: A SEE Learning Training Workshop for North American Tibetan Sunday School Teachers and Staff commenced in Portland on 12 April 2024.

The workshop was jointly organised by the Office of Tibet in Washington DC, Northwest Tibetan Cultural Association, and Emory University and was facilitated by Geshe Lobsang Tenzin Negi, Professor of Emory University; Tsondue Samphel, Assistant Director of Education of the Center for Compassionate and Responsible Social Actions; and Research Scientist Tenzin Sonam.

The event’s inaugural session was briefly addressed by chief guest Steve Hogan, the Mayor of Camas, and other guests, including Tibetan Liaison Officer Kunga Tashi from the Office of Tibet, President of the Tibetan Association Dongthok Kelsang, and workshop trainers.

Geshe Lobsang Tenzin Negi and Tsondru Samphel each gave a brief presentation on His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s noble intentions for introducing the SEE Learning method, its evolution and its importance. The president of the Portland Tibetan Association highlighted the crucial function of SEE Learning education for every human being and expressed her contentment at being able to provide this workshop for the members of the Northwest Tibetan Cultural Association. Likewise, Tibetan Liaison Officer Kunga Tashi explained the objectives of this workshop and called for continuous support from the city’s government in Tibetans’ endeavour to preserve their culture.

In his address, Mayor Steve Hogan expressed his gratitude for the invitation, and, given the ground realities of the current situation in the city, he displayed his admiration for SEE Learning education.

Around 50 participants from Portland, Utah; New Mexico; Vancouver, BC; Seattle, WA; San Francisco; and Colorado took part in this workshop.

The same workshop for the Weekend School teachers and staff of the East Coast will be held from 26 to 28 April in Toronto.
