His Holiness the Dalai Lama Safely Returns to Dharamshala Following a More than Month-and-a-half-long Sojourn in Ladakh

Dharamshala: Despite heavy rainfall and foggy weather, His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama safely returned to Dharamshala this afternoon to a warm welcome from Tibetans, devotees, and well-wishers, following a month-and-a-half-long sojourn in Ladakh.

Leadership from the Central Tibetan Administration, along with distinguished guests attending the 65th Tibetan Democracy Day celebrations, also gathered to receive His Holiness at His official residence.

Over the course of His Holiness’ extended visit to Ladakh, His Holiness journeyed to Zanskar, where His Holiness inaugurated the KarGön Mega Summer Symposium and laid the foundation stone for the Zanskar Mönlam Chörten. His Holiness also delivered teachings to an audience of over 21,000 devotees. While in Leh, His Holiness laid the foundation of the new Jokhang Temple, consecrated the Dharma Centre at Choglamsar, and addressed approximately 50,000 followers during two major public teachings on 16 and 17 August at Shiwatsel—an event that also featured long-life prayers in His Holiness’ honour. His Holiness’ final public appearance in Ladakh was at a luncheon hosted on 24 August at Abi-Spang Spituk.

Notably, His Holiness also met with Czech President Petr Pavel, who travelled from his country specifically to extend birthday greetings on the occasion of His Holiness’ 90th birthday.
