His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama Extends Warm Greetings to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV

Dharamshala: This morning, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama sent a letter to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, offering his warmest congratulations on the latter’s election as leader of the Roman Catholic Church.

In the letter, His Holiness the Dalai Lama expressed his pleasure at having met several of Pope Leo XIV’s predecessors and recalled the friendly conversations he shared with them. His Holiness remarked that, for more than four decades, he has engaged in meaningful dialogue with representatives of various religious traditions, including members of the Christian faith. Emphasising his deep belief in the oneness of humanity, he reaffirmed his commitment to fostering inter-religious harmony as one of the central missions of his life. His Holiness also reflected on his moving experience at the major interfaith gathering organised by Pope John Paul II in Assisi in 1986.

“In a period when the world is witnessing so many challenges, your election brings new hope not just to the Catholic community, but to people everywhere who are seeking a happier life in a more compassionate, peaceful world,” noted His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

His Holiness concluded his letter with his prayers and good wishes.
