Former Political Prisoner Namkyi Shares Situation Inside Tibet to Tibetans in America and Calls for Unity

Washington DC: Former Tibetan political prisoner Namkyi has arrived in the United States to advocate for and promote the Tibetan cause. During her visit, she briefed members of the US government and various non-governmental organisations on the current situation in Tibet. She also met with youth participating in the 2025 Youth Leadership and Capacity Building Workshop, where she shared her personal experiences of imprisonment and spoke about the immense sacrifices Tibetans inside Tibet continue to make for the Tibetan cause.

Furthermore, under the coordination of the Office of Tibet, Washington, Namkyi visited Tibetan community associations in several locations, including Washington, D.C., California, Portland, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Chicago.

She shared her personal experiences and those of Tibetans inside Tibet as examples to inspire the Tibetan communities she met. She spoke about the self-immolators she personally knew and conveyed the voices of Tibetans from the three provinces of U-Tsang, Kham, and Amdo who continue to endure torture and persecution in prisons.

Namkyi urged Tibetans to uphold unity and solidarity while keeping His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s teachings in their hearts. She is scheduled to visit the Tibetan Community of New York and New Jersey next for a community address.
