18th Tibetan Parliament in Exile’s Standing Committee Meets for the First Time

Dharamshala, 1 June 2026: The 18th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile convened the first meeting of its newly formed Standing Committee today. In accordance with Article 42 of the Charter of Tibetans in Exile, the Standing Committee comprises two parliamentarians from each of the three traditional provinces and one parliamentarian from each religious tradition. The Committee was formally constituted and began its work with the allocation of members to various sections and responsibilities.

The meeting was presided over by Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang and attended by Standing Committee members: Deputy Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, Parliamentarian Juchen Kunchok Chodon, Parliamentarian Tenpa Yarphel, Parliamentarian Geshe Lharampa Atuk Tseten, Parliamentarian Lopon Thupten Gyaltsen, Parliamentarian Geshe Atong Rinchen Gyaltsen, Parliamentarian Lobsang Thupten Pontsang, Parliamentarian Choedak Gyatso, Parliamentarian Gonpo Dhondup, and Parliamentarian Gyaltsen Choekyi Gagya.

At 11:00 a.m., in the Library-cum-Conference Hall, the members of the 18th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile’s first Standing Committee were welcomed by Speaker Teykhang. The Speaker provided an overview of the Parliament’s upcoming activities and emphasized the importance of coordinated and collective efforts to ensure the successful execution of these responsibilities.

The newly constituted Standing Committee members have been assigned to their respective sections for a one-year term, from 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2027, as follows:

I. Gyundrel Deytsen (Finance) :

  1. Parliamentarian Juchen Kunchok Chodon
  2. Parliamentarian Geshe Lharampa Atuk Tseten

II. Chabsi Deytsen (Political) :

  1. Parliamentarian Tenpa Yarphel
  2. Parliamentarian Lopon Thupten Gyaltsen
  3. Parliamentarian Lobsang Thupten Pontsang
  4. Parliamentarian Gonpo Dhondup
  5. Parliamentarian Gyaltsen Choekyi Gagya

III. Zinkyong Tokship Deytsen (Administration):

  1. Parliamentarian Geshe Atong Rinchen Gyaltsen
  2. Parliamentarian Choedak Gyatso
