Washington, DC: Additional Election Commissioner Tsering Youdon conducted a series of election awareness programmes in Toronto, Canada, and in New York and New Jersey, the United States, as part of the Election Commission’s ongoing awareness initiatives for the upcoming Tibetan general election.
The programmes were organised by the Canadian Tibetan Association of Ontario and the Tibetan Community of New York & New Jersey.
During the awareness sessions, Additional Election Commissioner Tsering Youdon provided detailed information on the electoral rules to the Tibetan public in both regions and held joint meetings with regional election officers and observers.
In her addresses, the Additional Election Commissioner covered: a brief overview of the development of Tibetan democracy in exile, along with the key guidelines related to the 2025–2026 Sikyong and 18th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile elections; the importance of participation by all eligible voters aged 18 and above as a fundamental exercise of democratic rights; the regulations governing permissible and impermissible actions during the election period; and other important matters requiring attention throughout the electoral process.
Following the sessions, she responded to questions from the public and regional election officers, offering further clarification on the electoral rules.
The Tibetan community associations in both regions facilitated the election awareness programmes, including providing official reception at the airport and making accommodation arrangements. North America’s Local Election Commissioner cum Representative of the Office of Tibet, Namgyal Choedup, accompanied the Additional Election Commissioner throughout the engagements.
With this, the Additional Election Commissioner successfully concluded her election awareness programmes in North America—comprising public briefings on electoral regulations and joint meetings with regional election officers—in the four major regions of California, Minnesota, Toronto, and New York on 29 November.
