Sikyong Penpa Tsering Engages with Member of Congress, Key Senate Committee, and Staffers in Washington, D.C.

Washington D.C.: On 27 October 2025, Sikyong Penpa Tsering, the democratically elected leader of Central Tibetan Administration began his official visit to the United States with a series of engagements in Capitol Hill, despite ongoing U.S. government shutdown. During his visit, Sikyong met with member of Congress, key Senate committee and staffers to advocate for Tibetan cause and to discuss continued U.S. support for Tibetan programmes, including funding issues and legislative priorities aimed at promoting the welfare of Tibetan communities.

Sikyong’s efforts to advance Tibetan interests persist in the hope of securing tangible outcomes. His schedule in Washington, D.C. includes several more meetings and interviews over the coming days, as he continues to engage with stakeholders to strengthen support for Tibet.
Sikyong was accompanied by Representative Namgyal Choedup of the Office of Tibet, Washington, D.C. and Ryan Fioresi and Franz Matzner of the International Campaign for Tibet (ICT).
