Dharamshala: On behalf of the Central Tibetan Administration and the Tibetan people, Sikyong Penpa Tsering extended heartfelt congratulations to His Excellency Friedrich Merz on his election as the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.
In his congratulatory letter addressed to the new German Chancellor, Sikyong remarked, “Your assumption of the esteemed office marks a new chapter not only in Germany’s national journey but also in its continued commitment to the protection of human rights worldwide. The Tibetan people have long regarded people of Germany, and the German Parliament as a steadfast ally in our nonviolent struggle for freedom and human rights.”
“The solidarity and support shown by successive German leaders and parliamentarians has been a beacon of hope for our people. Germany has repeatedly called upon the People’s Republic of China to respect the fundamental rights of the Tibetan people. Over the years, Germany has welcomed Tibetan refugees and supported educational and cultural initiatives within the Tibetan diaspora. The generous support extended to Tibetan institutions and communities, whether through parliamentary resolutions, humanitarian aids, and partnership with German civil society, is deeply cherished and will be remembered with profound gratitude by generations of Tibetans.”
Sikyong also expressed optimism that under Chancellor Merz’s leadership, the bond between Germany and Tibet will further deepen conveying, “We trust that under your leadership, Germany will continue to be a voice of conscience in the world, one that upholds the cause of truth, justice and the rights of all the people.”
Concluding his message, Sikyong Penpa Tsering offered his sincere wishes to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz for a successful tenure and reiterated the Tibetan people’s gratitude for Germany’s continued friendship.
