Representative of Washington’s Office of Tibet Meets US Senate Committee on Foreign Relation Officials

Washington DC: Representatives Namgyal Choedup, Secretary Tashi Dhondup,  ICT Interim Director Bhuchung K. Tsering, ICT Interim Deputy Director Tencho  Gyatso and ICT Government Relation Officer Franz Matzner met with US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations senior officials Charlotte Oldham-Moore, Michael Schiffer, Molly Barlow-Legislative & Policy Analyst, Srdan Sadikovic-Brookings Legislative Fellow, and Douglas Levinson-Legislative and Policy Analyst today Feb 10, 2022.

The representative briefed the meeting about the current CTA Administration’s firm commitment to the Middle Way Approach Policy and how it is seen as the only viable means to resolve the Sino-Tibet issue. He further briefed about the initiatives taken by the new CTA administration including the formation of a new Permanent Strategic Committee for Sino-Tibetan dialogue and negotiation; Voluntary Tibet Advocacy Group (V-TAG) program, and plans to reach out to the younger generation of American and Chinese in the schools and universities to strengthen further the Tibetan support network base. He emphasized the importance of reaching out to young Chinese students as part of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s vision of building better understanding between the Chinese and Tibetan societies.

The meeting also focussed on specific issues to seek feedback and support from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee as part of the Tibet support and policy acts passed by the US Congress.
