Sikyong Penpa Tsering Engages with Tibetan Youth and Students in Switzerland

Zurich, Switzerland: Sikyong Penpa Tsering of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) addressed and engaged with Tibetan youth and students residing in and around Switzerland during an interactive meeting held in the afternoon of 8 October 2026 at the Hilton Zurich Hotel.

The event was organised by the Tibet Bureau Geneva, led by Representative Thinlay Chukki, in close collaboration and cooperation with the Tibetan Community of Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

During the address, Sikyong provided an in-depth overview of the organisational framework, historical evolution, and key responsibilities of the Central Tibetan Administration. He detailed the distinct mandates of each CTA department, highlighting ongoing initiatives and welfare, educational, and digital programs designed to sustain the exile community and preserve Tibetan culture and identity.

Turning to global developments, Sikyong underscored the critical geostrategic and ecological significance of the Tibetan plateau, discussing how current shifts in world geopolitics directly affect the Tibetan cause. He highlighted China’s expanding economic footprints and strategic influence in global markets, urging the younger generation to remain informed and vigilant in navigating these complex international dynamics.

Emphasising youth-led international engagement, Sikyong stressed the vital importance of the Voluntary Tibet Advocacy Group (V-TAG). He noted that V-TAG serves as a primary, structured platform enabling young Tibetans in the diaspora to leverage their linguistic skills, professional expertise, and local network integration to advocate effectively for Tibet in host countries.

The hour-and-a-half-long session concluded with an open Q&A interaction, where students and young professionals raised questions on policy direction, diaspora engagement, and future advocacy strategies. The interactive dialogue offered the young attendees renewed clarity and inspiration, reinforcing their shared commitment and responsibility toward the collective struggle for Tibet.
