Washington D.C.: The annual Tibet Lobby Day in the United States was held on 8 and 9 Jun 2026 under the leadership of International Campaign for Tibet and participation from Tibetan Associations as per the resolutions adopted during the annual North American Tibetan Associations Conference.
More than 225 Tibetans and Tibet supporters from 27 states gathered in Washington D.C., to participate in the event to appeal U.S. Senators and Congressmen and Congresswomen to pass the Assuring the Future of Tibet Act (AFTA) and support the Tibetan cause. This year’s campaign saw a notably higher number of young Tibetan students taking part.
On the evening of 8 June, a reception was held to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States and to celebrate the re-election of Sikyong Penpa Tsering as political leader of the exile Tibetan community and the Central Tibetan Administration, as well as the election of members of the 18th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile.
During the reception at Capitol Hill, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi joined the event and addressed the gathering. Representative Namgyal Choedup and ICT President Tencho Gyatso also delivered remarks.
