Dharamshala: His Holiness the Dalai Lama safely arrived in Dharamshala this morning following a two-month sojourn at the Mundgod Deoguling Tibetan Settlement in Mundgod, Karnataka.

On 9 February 2026, His Holiness departed from Hubli Airport and spent the subsequent three days in Delhi for a medical check-up and meetings with prominent personalities before returning to Dharamshala.

Upon His Holiness’ arrival in Dharamshala, Tibetans, devotees, and well-wishers lined the road from Kangra Airport to His Holiness’ residence at the Tsuglagkhang, holding ceremonial scarves, flowers, and incense to offer a warm and heartfelt welcome. The streets, pervaded with the fragrance of burning juniper, came alive with performances of Tashi Sholpa and other traditional welcome dances and songs presented by various Tibetan institutions.

During His Holiness’ 60-day stay in Mundgod, His Holiness participated in a series of religious engagements. In December, His Holiness attended the annual Gaden Ngachod, an enthronement ceremony accompanied by long-life prayers at Drepung Monastery, and presided over a three-day Gelong ordination, which included monks from Gaden Shartse, Drepung Loseling, Drepung Gomang, Rato, Tashi Lhunpo, and other monasteries.

In January, His Holiness attended the annual debate presentations by Geshe Lharampas attending the Jang Gunchoe on two separate occasions. His Holiness also graced the annual Rigtsog debate presentation, attended a long-life prayer at Gaden Lachi, and conducted a four-day Gelong ordination. On 21 January, His Holiness inaugurated the new Gaden Jangtse Education Centre and Library.

His Holiness’ engagements concluded with His presence at the first annual remembrance prayer service for the late Gyalo Thondup, veteran Tibetan diplomat and former Kalon Tripa, who was also His Holiness’ elder brother.

In addition to these ceremonies, His Holiness granted audiences and offered spiritual guidance to a total of 15,935 devotees and followers, including meetings with distinguished individuals such as Nobel Peace Laureate Leymah Gbowee and prominent Indian officials and politicians.
