Dharamshala: The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) has strongly condemned social media accounts that have been actively disseminating misinformation using the official letterhead of the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
A fake account operating under the name Kallistos Rhys circulated a forged document bearing the official letterhead of the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama through a Facebook group page namely Free TIBET Movement, causing widespread deception, misinformation, and concern among the general public.
During the preliminary inquiry into the account’s activity by the Department of Security, Central Tibetan Administration, found that the user had joined the group on January 17, 2026, and shared a fake news regarding the Tibetan elections (The only time the page was active). The content was traced to an article published on a Chinese-language website namely westca.com based in Vancouver, Canada.
The website has previously published content targeting the exiled Tibetan community that appears one-sided, biased, and intentionally divisive. Such material seems designed to manipulate public opinion, deepen societal divisions, and undermine public trust in the Central Tibetan Administration.
When contacted by the Central Tibetan Administration, the administrator of the Facebook group page Pema Masih expressed regret over the misleading information shared through her Facebook group page. The user responsible for the post was subsequently removed from the group.
While appreciating Pema Masih’s quick response, the Central Tibetan Administration has issued an alert urging the general public, as well as social media administrators and users, to remain vigilant regarding the identities and intentions of accounts joining group pages and the information shared by unidentified users.
